School Sports Partnership
The project is supported by The Youth Sports Trust and provides for a Partnership Manager based at Smith’s Wood Sports College, which is the hub of the Project in this part of the Borough.  She manages the work of School Sports Co-ordinators based in Archbishop Grimshaw School, Arden School, Grace Academy, Heart of England School, Kingshurst City Technology Academy and Smith’s Wood Sports College.  Every Primary school has a PE Co-ordinator and links with their local secondary school.

The aim of the project is to encourage and develop sport and physical education across all Key Stages and all schools in the Northern half of Solihull.

Role of a Sports in the Physical Education, College Sport and Club Links Strategy: The overall objective is to enhance the take up of sporting opportunities by 5-16 year olds.  The aim is that by 2008 85% of College children are to spend a minimum of two hours per week on high quality PE and Sport within and beyond the curriculum and by 2010 to offer all children at least four hours of sport every week – at least two hours curriculum PE and an additional two to three hours beyond the College day.
What we have achieved so far:

Outdoor & Adventurous Activities (OAA)

Gareth Cushen is employed as a full time OAA tutor, delivering a range of exciting activities within and outside PE lessons.  From archery to abseiling, canoeing to climbing, mountain biking to hiking, orienteering to camping, our students (and staff) love to get involved.  We believe OAA makes a huge difference to the confidence of our students.

Community Sport/Activity/Health
Tony Jordan is our Community Sport Manager.  All students who know Tony will testify that he provides an outstanding service to our college!  He arranges the community sport bookings and organises the popular and successful “Fusion” project to give youngsters the chance to compete and keep active Thursday and Friday evenings.  Tony also referees and coaches basketball and football, and writes fabulous match reports!  He liaises with all the local sports clubs.
