Sports College
The aims of being a Sports College are to:
- Raise standards of achievement for all pupils within sports education and across the whole College
Improve the quality of teaching and learning within sports education
- Extend and enrich the learning opportunities and experiences for pupils within sports education – enhance the provision of pupils’ learning experiences in PE and sport e.g. through the use of qualified coaches or artists or the development of extended sporting club links
- Develop characteristics which signal the College’s specialist identity including the encouragement of increased take up within sports education – develop a PE and sporting culture and ethos that is both visual, interactive and commented on by those who visit the College.
- Collaborate with partner Colleges or schools to provide or facilitate high quality learning opportunities in the specialist subjects – e.g. improve the quality of teaching and learning in gymnastics or dance in partner Colleges or schools
- Provide or facilitate high quality learning opportunities through the sports education for members of the College’s wider community – e.g. develop the leadership skills of young people in the wider community through their participation and accreditation in PE and sports leadership awards.
It is expected that the development of a curriculum excellence within sports education will act as a catalyst for further whole College improvement, particularly through interacting across the College in the following ways:
- Both PE, Sport and English will act as a spur for whole College improvement by using the developments in the specialist subjects to support and reinforce good practice and pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding in other areas of the curriculum
- It will create an enhanced purpose and direction within the College and in its relationships with the local community and business
- It will encourage specialist Colleges networks to share their expertise and resources with other local Colleges or schools and local communities
What is our commitment to working with other Colleges or Schools
- The community development commits the College to working with other Colleges or schools
- Specialist Colleges are expected to demonstrate how the College’s work in relation to other collaborative programmes (e.g. federations, extended Colleges) and existing College to College or partnerships will complement the partnership activities in the specialist College community development plan.
