Sixth Form
CLOSING DATE FOR SIXTH FORM APPLICATIONS IS 8TH JULY 2009
INDUCTION MEETINGS WILL BE HELD ON 9TH AND 10TH JULY 2009
This is a very exciting addition to our College and one which we are looking forward to immensely. I really hope it will lead to more of our students staying on longer in education and becoming even more successful in their learning.
Staff and governors have long hoped for a Sixth Form at the College and our dreams will be realised in September.
As you may know, the new building has the capacity to take 200 past -16 students, with several specialist spaces reserved for them to work. We have also applied to be redesignated as a school with a sixth form and will get a decision on that in the New Year. In the meantime, we will be working in collaboration with Archbishop Grimshaw Catholic College to provide a much wider range of courses for our students.
Another advantage of staying on is that many post-16 students qualify for the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), which is worth £30 per week and paid directly to the student during term time, whilst they remain in education & training. It is calculated by looking at your household income and depends on your child regularly attending. It isn't affected by any part-time work that is done.
If you are already receiving benefits, it will not make any difference to them
The Sixth Form will, of course, be very different from the college pupils have experienced so far and you will hear more details about how our Sixth Form will operate as the year unfolds.
Of course, some people have decided to look elsewhere for the courses they want and I wish them every success in that.
However, I do hope that as many studentsas possible decide to stay with us in September and make the new Sixth Form as successful as they have helped make the College.
Please note we are also running Maths A level and Biology A Level further information can be obtained from either Mrs W Seward (Head of Sixth Form) or Mr D Baker (Vice Principal).
